Reality U- 8th Grade

Viking Families, Our 8th graders as well as SVHS sophomores will all be attending Reality U Wednesday, November 4th in the SVHS gym. Reality U is one of my favorite days of the year because it gives our 8th graders a chance to see the world with new eyes, learn basic financial literacy, and cultivate a yearning for learning. I wish I'd have had a simulation like this as a young person!
Today I have class with all the 8th graders to help them prepare profiles and learn expectations for the event. Once the onboarding questionnaire is complete, the Reality U platform then generates individual experiences for students-- making them 26 year old adults with jobs, families, monthly income(s), insurance, planned expenses, unexpected expenses, investments, leisure, and more. It is a truly incredible experience/simulations that I am always excited to take part in with our young people. In addition to both the financial literacy and motivation it imparts, perhaps the best part is the gratitude and understanding they gain for all that YOU as parents/guardians do and have done for them.
